The call of the wide

Connecting the masses across the seas with a SIMple solution from Uniconnect

The Challenge:

UniConnect was one of the pioneers in the Indian telephony space when it came to SIM cards that were dedicated to global travel and one of the initial clients for R K SWAMY BBDO. These SIM cards could be purchased in India and a traveller would have to pay almost local call rates when he was on roaming on one of these SIMs. The rates were much cheaper than opting for International Roaming via one of the traditional cellular providers because of deals that had been brokered with a number of international networks. However awareness of Uniconnect and its various product offerings was very low. This was a highly customisable service and couldn’t be bought off the shelf anywhere. People would have to call the company and a sales representative would visit you at your home to do the necessary documentation and configuration of your phone.

The Work



The Solution:

Awareness of Uniconnect’s various product offerings was the primary goal of the microsite. Instead of just a standardised listing of products, the approach adopted was to personalise each product with a story around it. Several characters were created, each facing a common type of instance where a Uniconnect SIM could save money. Users could discover products either by looking at these character profiles or navigate using the standard product drop down. A flash intro to the site conveyed the key value proposition, while a clutter free layout got the message across.

What it was like

Uniconnect was another project done during our formative years at R K SWAMY. A project that saw the team drawing closer together and binding as a cohesive digital unit under the guidance of Navin Harish. His understanding and approach of the site to use personas to sell unique product offerings was the first of its kind for the agency and I was honoured to have helped execute the same.


The work was done for a fledgling brand and it is nice to see the brand has a counter at the new Mumbai International airport and that we were able to establish and execute the first digital communication strategy for the brand.
